A Maltese cross constructed of silver gilt, the obverse and reverse with integrated white enameled arms, with very detailed crowned double-headed eagles between the arms of the cross, suspended from arabesques and a partially red enameled hollow crown and loop for suspension, measuring 62.70 mm (w) x 100.64 mm (h), with its crown suspension, weighing 50.2 grams, with an ornately detailed silver gilt Trophy of Arms for suspension, measuring 38.64 mm (w) x 45.91 mm (h), weighing 18.7 grams, with red enamel loss, very fine.
Accompanied by a Grand Cross breast badge, consisting of a Maltese cross constructed of silver gilt and white enamels, the reverse plain, reinforced at the center, with a vertical pinback, a sheet metal hinge, and a broad catch, measuring 60.05 mm (w) x 60.62 mm (h), weighing 22.3 grams, in extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
