A grouping of three imperial Austrian medals, awards, and decorations, consisting of 1) A 5th Issue (1913-1918) First Class Long Service Cross for 20 Years of Service; a bronze cross pattee with a central silvered bronze applique, inscribed “XX” within a laurel wreath that is tied together at the bottom; with a horizontally pierced ball for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon; measuring 34.37 mm (w) x 34.49 mm (h); weighing 13.3 grams. 2) A Military Merit Cross Third Class; constructed of silver with red and white enameled arms, with a laurel wreath between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a central white enameled medallion, inscribed “Verdienst” (German - Merit), surrounded by a broad ring of red enamels; the reverse enameled in white; on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon; marked “FR” for Rothe, as well as with an incomplete silver hallmark; measuring 30.88 mm (w) x 30.63 mm (h); weighing 16.4 grams. 3) An Iron Merit Cross with Crown; constructed of zink; a solid cross, inscribed “FJ” for “Franz Joseph” on the obverse, surrounded by a ring, inscribed “VIRIBUS UNITIS” (Latin - Joining Forces); the reverse dated “1916”; on a loop and swivel crown for suspension from its period original ribbon; measuring 35.35 mm (w) x 54.61 mm (h); weighing 17.0 grams. This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
