Austria, Imperial. A Decoration for Services to the Red Cross, II Class with War Decoration
(Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um das Rote Kreuz, II. Klasse mit Kriegsdekoration). Constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Latin Cross with red and white enameled arms, the obverse with a central applique in the form of a red enameled Geneva Cross on a white enameled background, surrounded by a ring of ren enamel with an inscription of “PATRIAE ET HUMANITATI” (“COUNTRY AND HUMANITY”), overlaid by a green enameled laurel and oak leaf wreath, the reverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing dates “1864-1914”, surrounded by a ring of red enamel, the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop and suspension ring connecting to a period original tri-fold ribbon, the integral ring marked with a Dianakopf (Diana Head) and number “2”, measuring 36.81 mm (w) x 48.18 mm (h), weighing 23.8 grams, flecking of enamels evident, with some chipping of the obverse six o’clock arm, otherwise in very fine condition.
