Austria, Imperial. A Red Cross Honour Badge, II Class with War Decoration
(Ehrenkreuz für Verdienst um das Rote Kreuz, II. Klasse mit Kriegsdekoration). Instituted 17 August 1914 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with sword clasp, consisting of a Latin Cross with red and white enameled arms, the obverse with a central white medallion bearing a red enamelled Geneva Cross, within a ring of red ribbed gilt bearing a raised inscription of “PATRIAE AC HUMANITATI” (“PATRIOTISM AND HUMANITY”), overlaid by a green enameled laurel wreath, the reverse with a central white medallion bearing dates “1864-1914”, within a ring of red enamels, the integral loop with an illegible maker’s mark, measuring 37.05 mm (w) x 48.42 mm (h), weighing 20.8 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
