(Österreichisch-kaiserliche Leopold-Orden). Instituted on 8 January 1808 by Emperor Franz I. III Model. A silver gilt Maltese cross with red and white enamels, obverse centre presenting the initials “F.I.A.,” circumscribed by “INTEGRITATI ET MERITO,” reverse centre with motto of Leopold II “OPES REGUM CORDA SUBDITORUM,” within a golden laurels, adorned by a detailed Austrian crown in addition to green enameled laurels, maker mark “VM” (Vincent Mayer's Söhne) on integral ring as well as suspension ring, hallmarked with Diana-head on the suspension ring, measuring 30 mm (w) x 56 mm (h) inclusive of its crown suspension, crazing, chipping and repair evident in the white enamels on the obverse centrepiece ring, and on the reverse of the arms at 3 and 6 o'clock, on its original triangular ribbon with hook and eye, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of Leopold was instituted on July 14, 1808 by Kaiser Franz I and discontinued in 1919. It was awarded for military and civil merit in four grades: Grand Cross, First Class, Commander, and Knight.
