"A Bavarian Royal Merit Order of St. Michael Service Cross with Crown (Bayerisch-Königlicher Verdienstorden vom heiligen Michael); 1887-1918, silver cross pattée; with a silver oval center applique depicting St. Michael slaying a dragon - his shield reads “Quis Ut Deus” (Latin - Who [is] like God?); the reverse with a round silver applique, reading “Virtuiti” (Latin - Virtue); suspended from a swivel crown suspension; with a horizontally-pierced ball and ring suspension; with its period original tri-fold Austrian ribbon stitched shut using black twill; measuring 37.52 mm (w) X 62.51(h - with crown suspension); weighing 27.6 grams; attractive patina from age; excellent quality and in near mint condition. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps.
