(Orden des Heiligen Hubertus, Ordenskreuz für die Schärpe). Instituted on 3 November 1444 by Gerhard VII, Duke of Jülich-Berg. 1806-1918 Issue. An impressive and beautifully executed award, both large and well proportioned, consisting of a Gold Maltese cross with white-enamelled arms with golden borders and golden ball finials, each arm featuring inset Golden sparks radiating from the order body, each quadrant of the cross presents three stylized Gold rays, obverse centre presenting the conversion of Saint Hubert with the legend IN TRAU VAST (FIRM IN FIDELITY) in diamonds over a ruby-red enamelled field, reverse centre presents a Gold imperial orb on a background of red enamel and surrounded by the hand painted Latin inscription IN MEMORIAM RECUPERATAE DIGNITATIS A VITAE 1708 (IN REMEMBERANCE OF THE RESTORATION OF THE ORIGINAL DIGNITY 1708), hand engraved on six o’clock arm with the number 73, measuring 81.30 mm (w) x 113.24 mm (h - inclusive of crown), weighing 117.6 grams, on large ring for suspension, reverse exhibits enamel damage of hand painted inscription, on mid 20th century sash, remains extremely fine and rare.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
