Cambodia, French Protectorate. A Royal Order of Cambodia, Commander, c.1910

(Ordre royal du Cambodge). Instituted 1864. 1864-Present Issue. Of French manufacture in silver gilt, a beautiful multiple-rayed eight-pointed star, with obverse centre exhibiting a superposed coat of arms of the King of Cambodia in Gold, with an enameled electric blue background, surrounded by nicely enameled red border also in Gold, with plain reverse, surmounted by a large royal crown in silver gilt, the loop suspension hallmarked with boars head denoting silver fineness of .800 since 1838, with unknown maker’s mark (*EC) on elongated ring suspension, and marked on cross with Dutch Tax mark for foreign small articles (Boar head in triangle) used until 1953, measuring 60.54 mm (w) x 95.49 mm (h - inclusive of horizontally pierced ball suspension adorned by integral cross), with minor toned silver, accompanied by original neck ribbon, extremely fine.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
