Canada, Commonwealth. A Silver Coffee Pot, by Birks, c.1941
(Silver). Antique. A coffee pot constructed of silver. The foot of the coffee pot is fluted with a vertically elongated, fluted, melon style body. The spout of the pot is partially fluted, with a simple acanthus design and a pointed mouth. The lid of the pot is fluted with a flattened, circular, fluted finial in the center. The lid is attached to the pot by a hinge located by the handle. The handle of the pot begins in silver and features a flower and acanthus detail, ten turns into a wooden handle and thumbpiece and finishes in silver with a simple acanthus detail. The interior lip of the lid is marked with a C partially encompassing a lion head, a lion passant and the letter “F”. The interior or the pot bears a filter at the spout. The bottom of the pot is marked “BIRKS”, with a C partially encompassing a lion head, a lion passant and the letter “F”, “STERLING” and “4”, “U 59/2”. Measuring 270mm (w) x 240mm (h) and weighing 825 grams. Lovely patina on the exterior, and in extremely fine condition.
