(Harp Madalyası). Instituted in 1915. Of German manfacture, silvered bronze with red enamels, maker marked "B.B.&Co" (unidentified maker) on the reverse, measuring 57.3 mm (w) x 55.2 mm (h), horizontal pinback, chipping evident in the red enamels on the tip of the star point at 12 o'clock, edge nicks, silvering wear on the tughra, better than very fine.
Footnote: The Gallipolli Star was a military decoration awarded by the Ottoman Empire. It is also known as the Ottoman War Medal. It was instituted by Sultan Mehmed V on March 1, 1915 for gallantry in battle. This decoration was awarded for the duration of the First World War to Ottoman and other Central Powers troops, primarily in Ottoman areas of engagement.
