Germany, Federal Republic. A German Cross in Gold, 1957 Version

(Deutsches Kreuz in Gold). Constructed of a gilded and silvered bronze alloy with enamels, the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid eight-pointed starburst pattern, with a central silvered disc bearing a 1957-style Iron Cross, within a circular gilded laurel leaf wreath, wrapped in ribbon and joined together at the bottom by an institution date of “1941”, with rings of red enamel trimming both the inner and outer edges the wreath, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, with barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat write catch, unmarked, measuring 64.55 mm (w) x 64.80 mm (h), weighing 80.2 rams, with evidence of repainting to the centrepiece, in overall near extremely fine condition.
