Germany, SS. A SS Miniature Dagger Letter Opener

(SS Brieföffner). A unique SS letter opener, of multi-piece construction and in the form of a Model 1933 SS dagger. It consists of a magnetic metal blade with a sharpened tip, with marks and inscriptions etched into each side. One side bears a etched SS motto of “MEINE EHRE HEIßT TREUE” (“MY HONOUR IS LOYALTY”), while the other features a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and maker’s code of “807/36” (a confirmed manufacturer of the full-size Model 1933 SS dagger), beneath double Sig runes. The blade sits within a silvered zink alloy handle, with both the upper and lower crossguards featuring eight notches. The obverse of the handle features a blackened Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching wreathed mobile swastika, as well as double Sig runes near the pommel. The handle itself only retains some of its original blackened finish. It measures 205 mm in total length, and in addition to the missing handle paint, some pitting and oxidation is evident throughout. It is in an overall very fine condition.
