Item #M0385-268

$431
(Sturmabteilung Dolch). A well-preserved Sturmabteilung (SA) Model 1933 dagger, measuring 375 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 220 mm-long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and sharpened edges. The blade presents plain with the exception of a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo near the reverse ricasso, above a maker’s code of “M7/27” for Lauterjung & Sohn, Solingen. It sits within a silver zink alloy upper crossguard, marked with eight notches, with four distributed at both the top and bottom. The handle is composed of a single piece of polished dark brown wood, contoured for a comfortable grip. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered bronze SA-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 25 mm (w) x 15 mm (h). Also inset into the handle is a silvered SA insignia, measuring 9 mm in diameter. It completes with a silvered zink alloy lower crossguard, similarly marked with eight notches, secured together with a rounded pommel nut. The dagger is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a brown-painted magnetic metal shaft. Magnetic metal fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat with side rivets, with the throat fixture retaining a functional spring catch, holding the dagger in place during storage. Emanating from the throat fixture is an integral loop for the accommodation of a dagger hanger. Some issues consistent with age and use are evident, and include oxidation and running marks to the blade, oxidation to the silvered elements, and some scratching of the handle. It is in an overall better than very fine condition.
