Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika, with a central depiction of the Northern Hemisphere topped by a Viking longship, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Friedrich Orth, measuring 45.56 mm (w) x 56.57 mm (h), weighing 34.6 grams, with moderate loss of finish evident, in very fine condition.
