(Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 99 Bierkrug). An extremely well-preserved Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 99 stein, commissioned by a member of 16. Ersatz Maschinengewehr-Kompanie (16th Replacement Machine Gun Company). Constructed of glazed porcelain, it features a rounded, protruding handle which is affixed a pewter lid with a swivel hinge. The top of the lid features a raised Heer-style Stahlhelm set within a circular oak leaf wreath. The exterior of the stein features a hand-painted and highly-detailed image of a Gebirgsjäger machine gun crew in action in mountainous terrain. Beneath the image are inscriptions of “ERINNERUNG AN MEINE DIENSTZEIT” (“IN MEMORY OF MY SERVICE TIME”) and “16. (E.M.G.) KOMPANIE, GEB. JÄG. 99 SONTHOFEN”. It is flanked by an owner’s name of “JÄGER BRAMEL MATTHIAS” in black Fraktur script. Etched onto the side near the handle is a measurement of “0.5L”, while partially-legible marks are etched onto the base. It measures 93 mm (w) x 144 mm (h) (inclusive of lid). The pewter demonstrates an age-appropriate patina, the porcelain presents free of evident chips, and the stein is in an overall extremely fine condition.
