The body on this fine quality cap is fabricated from a black wool, in the traditional flat top design with raised peak, with two rows of red piping: one along the top edge and one butting the top of the red wool band that runs around the circumference. There are two black metal eyelets on each side of the cap on the underside of the overhang for ventilation. The front is adorned with a 30.5 mm (w) x 43.5 mm (h) GRV Canada Militia Brigadier cap badge in silvered and gold-coloured bullion wire with red embroidery, the latter fabric represented in the crown on the lion's head, its tongue and the main crown. The black patent leather visor has a black two-piece patent leather strap resting along the top edge, held in position via bronze gilt Canada Militia buttons on both sides, the front edge of the visor trimmed in a narrow strip of black patent leather. Resting upon the top of the visor are a series of eleven maple leaves in gold-coloured bullion wire, extending across the entire width of the visor. The underside of the visor has a hunter green synthetic finish, the visor itself very stiff. The 50 mm wide sweatband is fabricated from leather with a pecan brown upper, with a length-adjustable green ribbon fed through a series of slots in the sweatband on either side of the seam at the rear, ensuring a snug fit on the wearer's head, and finished in a bow-tied fashion. The sweatband is emboss stamped with "MUIR CAP CO TORONTO / CONTRACTORS TO THE DOMINION GOVERNMENT" manufacturer's mark in gold-coloured ink on the right side and museum marked "7535 68/4" in black ink beside the seam. The sidewalls and dome are covered in a gold-coloured rayon, the dome incorporating a light-yellow tinted moisture shield, with a "MUIR CAP CO LIMITED TORONTO" manufacturer's label stamped in place in black ink in the dome under the moisture shield. The cap measures 257 mm (w) x 265 mm (d) x 100 mm (h), with wear evident on the patent leather finish on both the visor strap and the top of the visor, along with the trim on the front edge of the visor which also has a piece missing at the front, the moisture shield having experienced cracking and loss. The wool exterior is free of mothing. Overall, it continues to exhibit smooth quality in the wool, plus quality workmanship, intact stitching, maintaining its original period look, fine.
