Item #G48657

$486
(Heer Schiffchen M42). An extremely well-preserved Heer EM/NCO’s M42 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, gently scalloped at the front, offering optional ear and neck protection for the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place with two pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the right panel meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. Each side of the crown features a ventilation hole reinforced with a magnetic metal eyelet. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a T-shaped field-grey rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a tricolour cockade. The interior features a complete dark grey rayon-blended liner. Stamped onto the crown in black ink is a mark of “WIENER MÜTZEN LAGO” for Landes-Lieferungs-Genossenschaft of Vienna, above a code “63”, beneath a manufacture date of “1942”, and with a size mark of “57”. The cap measures approximately 300 mm (l) x 110 mm (h) when folded flat. Minor fatigue consistent with age and field use is evident, but the cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
