Item #G46630

$601
(Gebirgsjäger Schirmmütze). A very well-preserved Heer Gebirgsjäger NCO’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap features reinforced side walls, with the exterior bearing a dark green wool cap band. Light green piping adorns the crown, as well as the top and bottom of the cap band. Underneath the peak, the cap is pinned with a Gebirgsjäger insignia in the form of a magnetic metal edelweiss, measuring 30 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). Underneath the insignia, the centre of the cap band is pinned with a wreathed tricolour cockade insignia, constructed of aluminum and measuring 70 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). The cap is flanked on each side by a blackened magnetic metal button securing in place a leather chinstrap, itself adjusted with dual magnetic metal buckles. When not in use, the chinstrap wrests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a matte black on the obverse and in light green on the reverse. The interior features a 48 mm-wide blackened leather sweatband, perforated with an array of small ventilation holes near the forehead. A field-grey rayon-blended fully encompasses the interior, with a transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard stitched into the crown. The moisture guard bears the embossed remnant of a maker’s mark reading “GEORG BRAUN, BAD REICHENHALL, LUDWIGSTR. 3”. The cap measures 250 mm (w) x 255 mm (l) x 170 mm (h). While well-preserved, the cap displays some issue consisting with age and use, including the loss of the eagle insignia formerly adorning the peak, minor material fatigue of the wool and moderate fatigue of the cap band and moisture guard, as well as some soiling of the interior. It is in an overall better than very fine condition.
