Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, dark patina on the BWM, original ribbons, the DSM a replica);

2. Defence Medal (original ribbon, with Home Secretary letter and its mailing box, obverse addressed to "F.R. NICHOL, ESQ., / 23, WEST STREET, / WALLSEND-ON-TYNE, / NORTHUMBERLAND.", reverse number stamped "C956510");

3. Royal Navy Submarines Old Comrades Association Lapel Badge (in bronze gilt with blue enamels, measuring 26.7 mm (w) x 27.5 mm (h), button hole attachment, intact enamels);

4. Battle of Jutland Commemorative Medal 1916 (in white metal, obverse illustrating a Royal Ensign and a Union Jack as crossed flags, with a shield in between inscribed "31 MAY 1916", backed by a trident with an anchor tied to its base, surrounded by the inscription "To The Glorious Memory Of Those Who Fell That Day", reverse inscribed with the date "MAY 31, 1916" above the inscription "The German Fleet attacked off the coast of Jutland and driven back into port with heavy loss. Admiral Sir John Jellicoe, Commander in Chief. Vice Admiral Sir David Beatty, Commanding Battle Cruiser Fleet." within an open-ended wreath of oak leaves and acorns, maker marked "SPINK & SON. 1916.", measuring 45 mm in diameter). Very fine.

1. Frank Ridley Nichol was born on November 17, 1899 in South Shields, Durham. He enlisted for First World War service as a Boy Seaman (J.50259) with the Royal Navy on November 27, 1917, his eighteenth birthday. For his First World War service, he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He would later serve in the Second World War, earning him the Defence Medal.

2. The Battle of Jutland Commemorative Medals were sold in order to raise money for naval orphanages.
