Germany, Heer. A Rare Early Gebirgsjäger Wind Jacket

(Windjacke für Gebirgsjäger). A rare and exceptionally well-preserved early Gebirgsjäger wind jacket, constructed of a field-grey, cotton-blended, water-repellent canvas material. It features a lay-down collar reinforced on the reverse with an array of machine-embroidered darts, with the left side featuring an integrated strap held in place with dual black bakelite buttons. The strap can be unfastened to meet a single black bakelite button on the right, allowing for an optional flush fit in inclement weather conditions. The cuff of each sleeve similarly features button and strap closure for additional protection. Topping the shoulders are integrated loops at the outer edge and bakelite buttons on the inner edge for the accommodation of removable shoulder straps. Each breast flap features dual pockets, with the upper pockets closing with vertical flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting black bakelite buttons. The lower pockets close with horizontal flaps and are pleated at the front. The jacket closes with five sets of grey-painted non-magnetic metal buttons on each flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left side, allowing for tight closure. Notably, the jacket also features an integrated belt at the reverse, consisting of two straps fastened closed with grey-painted non-magnetic metal buttons. The interior presents plain the the exception of a suspension loop set into the collar, as well as size dimensions stamped onto the right breast flap in black ink, above a manufacture date of “M41”, and beneath a partially-legible mark of “KLEIDERFABRIK MARKT-SCHWABEN”, indicating manufacture by an official clothing depot. The jacket measures approximately 480 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 620 mm, and an overall body length of 820 mm. Presenting free of evident faults or wear, this rare Gebirgsjäger jacket is in an overall extremely fine condition.
