Germany, NSDAP. An Orts-Level Political Leader’s Visor Cap

Item #G48817

$880
(NSDAP Schirmmütze für Politische Leiter). An Orts-level Political Leader’s visor cap, constructed of light brown whipcord wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a smooth brown doeskin wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with light blue Orts-level piping, with an additional band of identical piping trimming the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is a gilded zink insignia consisting of a NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Measuring 65 mm (w) x 35 mm (h), the eagle retains all three of its reverse attachment prongs. Also pinned onto the cap band directly underneath the eagle is a second zink insignia consisting of a tri-colour cockade with a black mobile swastika centrepiece, set within an oak leaf wreath and measuring 110 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The cap band is flanked by pebbled magnetic metal buttons securing in place a decorative chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled gold bullion wire, adjusted with dual sliding knots. It rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a matte brown on both the obverse and reverse. A brown leather sweatband fully lined the interior of the side walls, perforated with ventilation holes along the forehead, while the interior is also encompassed by a brown rayon liner. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 260 mm (w) x 275 mm (l) x 160 mm (h). Issues consistent with age and use are evident, and include some wear and soiling of the wool (including a hole to the crown near the peak), oxidation and loss of finish to the zink insignia, distortion of the side walls, and fatigue of the sweatband. The cap is in an overall very fine condition.
