Constructed of a white cotton-rayon blend, trimmed at both the top and bottom by black threading, the exterior bearing a black machine-embroidered inscription of “KURLAND”, flanked on the left by a black machine-embroidered shield bearing the coat of arms of the Teutonic Knights and on the right by a black machine-embroidered coat of arms of the city of Mitau, unmarked, measuring 38 mm (w) x 220 mm (l), with some soiling and fatigue evident, in uniform-removed and better than very fine condition; accompanied by its recipient’s (Zweitschrift) Soldbuch, constructed of a card stock binding and retaining all 24 paginated interior pages with handwritten entries, named to Obergefreiter Josef Brettmeister, indicating that Brettmeister served with both Luftwaffen and Pionier-Bataillon 329 and was a recipient of the Iron Cross II and I Classes, West Wall Medal, Eastern Front Medal, War Merit Cross II Class with Swords, General Assault Badge, and the Kurland Cuff Title, measuring 105 mm (w) x 145 mm (h), secreted within the back of the Soldbuch is a small wartime photograph depicting a number of Heer soldiers, unmarked and undated, measuring 62 mm (w) x 88 mm (h), with age-appropriate material fatigue evident to the Soldbuch, in overall near extremely fine condition.
