(Orden Pour le Mérite für Wissenschaft und Künste Bandschnalle). Instituted 31 May 1842 by Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm IV. (1842-present issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, set on a 25 mm-long bar with a period original ribbon and horizontal pinback, unmarked, in extremely fine condition.
