Germany, NSDAP. A Rare & Complete NSDAP Party Secretary Uniform by Hugo Boss

(NSDAP Dienstuniform für Sekretär). A rare, complete, and exceptionally well-preserved NSDAP Party Secretary uniform, consisting of the following pieces:

1. A service tunic, constructed of a high-quality khaki-tan wool gabardine. It features a turned-down collar which transitions into double-breasted lapels, with the outer edge of the former fully trimmed with gold bullion wire piping, secured in place by fine hand stitching. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 160 mm and remains in position with pieces of heavy stitching at both the front and back. Set into each breast flap are two pockets, with the upper pockets pleated and closing with scalloped horizontal flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting gilded magnetic metal buttons. The lower pockets present with plain horizontal flaps, similarly fastened with gilded magnetic metal buttons. Closing the tunic are four gilded magnetic metal buttons fastened in place vertically on the right flap, in turn meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. Completing the tunic’s exterior features are dual gilded magnetic metal belt hooks set into the lower back, just above a reinforced vertical slit allowing for functional wear. All of the pocket buttons are stamped on the reverse with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and maker code “M5/9” for Matthias Oechsler & Sohn of Ansbach, while the breast buttons are similarly stamped with a RZM logo and maker code “M/75/3” for Dr. Franke & Co. of Lüdenscheid, indicating retention of all original manufacturer-applied elements. The interior of the tunic is fully encompassed by a golden-brown rayon liner, which transitions into a grey rayon/cotton blended material through the arms. The upper left breast flap features the interior’s sole pocket, opening with a reinforced horizontal flap and retaining a fully intact RZM label. Notably, the label bears a maker code of “D2/60218”, indicating manufacture by the legendary clothier Hugo Boss of Metzingen. A number of “52” is also stamped onto the liner just above the left arm. The tunic measures approximately 480 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 610 mm, and an overall body length of 800 mm when folded flat. It displays only minor blemishes on condition, which include some loss of finish to the belt hooks, a small patch of material fatigue to the interior liner near the collar, and spot of soiling just underneath the interior pocket. It is in an overall extremely fine condition.

2. A matching pair of breeches, constructed of an identical high-quality cotton wool gabardine. Distributed across the waistband are nine brown bakelite buttons, with seven additional small brown bakelite buttons stitched in place just underneath their larger counterparts. The breeches feature an integrated belt consisting of short dual side straps which emanate from the back and fit through magnetic metal loops, in turn fastening into functional magnetic metal snap buckles. Flanking the breeches are pockets closing with scalloped diagonal flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting gilded magnetic metal buttons. Each button is stamped on the reverse with a RZM logo and maker code of “M5/72/15”. The breeches close with a French fly, consisting of four bidden brown bakelite buttons on the right meeting an equal number of hidden reinforced buttonholes on the left, with the analogous waistband button topping the arrangement. A single reverse pocket is set into the upper part of the right leg, closing with a scalloped horizontal flap and reinforced buttonhole meeting a gilded magnetic metal button. Reinforced vertical slits are set into each leg, extending from the ankle to the calf, and are each fastened closed with seven brown bakelite buttons meeting analogous reinforced buttonholes. The interior features a partial white rayon liner which extends around the waist and also comprises the structure of the pockets. A single integral suspension loop is embroidered to the back, allowing for the breeches to be hung when not in use. They are unmarked with the exception of a stamped number of “50” flanking the suspension loop. Measuring approximately 425 mm across the waist, with an inseam of 330 mm, and an overall length of 990 mm when folded flat, the breeches present free of evident issues with the exception of a single cracked reverse button, and are in an overall extremely fine condition.

3. A service shirt, constructed of a khaki-tan cotton/rayon blend. It features a turned-down collar with integral stays set into the structure of each corner. A vertical slit is set into the cuff of each sleeve and fastens closed with a single white bakelite button meeting an analogous reinforced buttonhole. The shirt closes with half-length breast flaps, the right side of which bears four white bakelite buttons meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The lower button secures in an intact RZM label which bears a maker code of “B18/2002”, while a white label with a red embroidered number “38” is stitched in place just underneath. The interior of the shirt presents plain. It measures approximately 440 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 570 mm, and an overall length of 840 mm when folded flat. With only slight signs of material fatigue, it is in an overall extremely fine condition. Accompanying the shirt is its matching tie, constructed of a tapering khaki-tan cotton/rayon blend. The reverse retains an intact RZM label bearing a code of “441958”. It measures approximately 550 mm in length when knotted for wear, and is in an extremely fine condition.

4. A belt constructed of press brown leather. One end features an integrated gilded aluminum loop, decorated on the obverse with raised oak leaves and stamped on the reverse with a RZM logo and maker code of “M4/46”, indicating manufacture by Wilhelm Schroder & Co., Lüdenscheid. The reverse of the opposite end features a brown leather tongue, perforated with seven sets of dual eyelets for an adjustable fit. Two sliding leather bands are also fastened around the belt, which is itself marked with a RZM logo and code “L2/256/41” The reverse also bears an additional dark green RZM stamp which has since been rendered illegible. It measures 60 mm (w) x 1190 mm (l) and is in an extremely fine condition. It is accompanied by a matching buckle, constructed of gilded aluminum. The obverse consists of a circular oak leaf wreath, overlaid by a highly detailed NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The reverse features an aluminum band which is curved at one end to meet the aforementioned belt loop, while the opposite end retains a buckle with dual attachment claws. It is marked with a raised RZM logo and maker code of “M4/27” for Overhoff & Cie., Lüdenscheid. Measuring 55 mm in diameter, it is in a near mint condition.

5. A pair of gloves, each constructed of a high-quality, durable dark brown leather, with the seams reinforced with dual lengths of machine stitching. Each glove features a reinforced slit set into the underside of the cuff, fastening closed with functional magnetic metal snap buttons bearing marks of “NAPPA”. Encompassing the interior of both gloves is a white wool liner. Each glove measures approximately 140 mm (w) x 230 mm (l) when folded flat. Slight signs of material fatigue are visible to high-contact points near the tips of the fingers, but the gloves are in an overall near extremely fine condition.

6. A pair of boots, each constructed of multiple pieces of dark brown leather, reinforced along the seams with double machine stitching. They feature elevated soles, with multi-layer raised heels, both secured together with an array of magnetic metal hobnails. Also distributed across the front of each sole is an array of flattened magnetic metal studs. Embossed onto each sole is a RZM logo and partially-legible code which appears to read “L71831”. The interior of each boot features leather and canvas straps affixed to the sides with heavy stitching. Moderate material fatigue consistent with age and use is evident to the leather and soles, but the boots are in an overall near extremely fine condition.
