WWI On War Service Badge, 1916 - Bronze, numbered "424435" and maker marked "J.R. GAUNT & SON LD LONDON" on the reverse, illustrating a triangle with the "On War Service" indented respectively on the sides, voided crown in the centre and the date "1916" at the base of the crown, crisp detail, 39.2 mm x 44.3 mm, vertical pinback, slight discolouration in one corner, very fine. Footnote: WWI British Home Front On War Service Badges were issued by the government and private firms from December 1914 onwards, to signify that the wearer was engaged in essential war work. This badge was introduced in 1916 for women involved in munitions production. It was issued after the completion of two months' work.
