A fascinating lot of wartime photos depicting the crew of Type VIIC U-Boat U-968, including a candid portrait of its commander, Oberleutnant zur See Otto Westphalen, depicted seated on the exterior of the vessel, the reverse with a handwritten inscription, measuring 104 mm (w) x 150 mm (h), with material fatigue throughout, in overall very fine condition; a second photo depicting Westphalen shortly after receiving the Knight’s Cross (awarded 23 March 1945), unmarked, measuring 105 mm (w) x 75 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; six assorted photos depicting U-968 crew members on the exterior of the vessel, some with awards visible, in overall near extremely fine condition, and; one depicting a group of POWs, two of which are in Kriegsmarine tunics, the reverse with a handwritten inscription and date of 1947, measuring 140 mm (w) x 90 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
