(Heer Stahlhelm M42). A well-preserved Heer M42 single decal Stahlhelm (steel helmet), constructed of a single sheet of magnetic molybdenum steel that retains most of its original apple-green paint. Three rivets are distributed around the exterior circumference of the shell, securing in place the interior fixtures, while the helmet is also flanked by integrated ventilation shafts. Just underneath the left shaft are the remnants of a decal consisting of a black shield overlaid by a silver-grey Heer eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 34 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The rim of the helmet is uncrimped, reflecting a classic M42 design. A magnetic metal ring fully encompasses the interior walls, secured in place with the aforementioned rivets, and retains a period original brown leather liner. The liner completes in eight fingers, each of which is perforated with five ventilation holes, all with a single hole at the top through which is looped a period original drawstring. Also emanating from the ring are two magnetic metal loops, with the left loop retaining a small remnant of the helmet’s original chinstrap. Stamped onto the rim is a size mark of “64”, flanked by an illegible code, while the crown bears a handwritten inscription of “MK. 2642”. It measures 242 mm (w) x 288 mm (l) x 135 mm (h). Some scratching is evident to the exterior of the shell in addition to the deterioration of the decale, and there is wear visible through the liner with further loss of the chinstrap. The helmet is in an overall very fine condition.
