(Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege I. Klasse). Instituted 1 May 1939. (1939-1944 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Geneva Cross with white enameled arms, the obverse overlaid by a finely-detailed black enameled German national eagle with feathering highlighted in gilt, clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop and suspension ring connecting to a period original neck ribbon, unmarked, measuring 52.78 mm (w) x 56.88 mm (h), weighing 39.7 grams, with some flecking of enamels evident in addition to evidence of suspension repair, in overall very fine condition.
