Germany, Wehrmacht. A 1942 Norwegian Occupation Plaque

(Besetzung Norwegens Erinnerungsplakette). Constructed of a dark brown wooden base, the obverse bearing a multi-coloured painted applique consisting of a shield bearing a Norwegian flag, a polar bear, and an inscription of “BANAK 1940”, topped by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a hand-painted inscription of “KRIEGSJAHR 1942” (“WAR YEAR 1942”), the reverse with two visible rivets securing the applique in place, unmarked, measuring 140 mm (w) x 248 mm (h), with minor wear evident, an interesting commemorative piece in near extremely fine condition.
