Germany, Third Reich. A Nuremberg-Style Desk Eagle, by Sporthaus Scherm

(Nürnberg Schreibtisch Adler). A rare and well-preserved Nuremberg-style desk eagle. Constructed of multiple pieces of polished matte bronze, it consists of a rectangular pedestal affixed to two mounts. The latter is in turn riveted to a marble base with a black and dark green mottle. The obverse of the pedestal bears a raised plaque with an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”). Situated on top of the pedestal is a finely-detailed German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, presented in the style commonly seen in place at the annual Nuremberg Rally. The base retains most of a smooth green felt liner, mitigating surface scratching, and shows two visible rivets and washers which securely hold the fixtures in place. Also visible on the liner is a maker’s mark of “SPORT-HAUS SCHERM, NÜRNBERG”. It measures 160 mm (w) x 90 mm (h) x 225 mm (h) overall. With only minor scratching and spots of wear evident, it is in an overall extremely fine condition.
