$708
(Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Offiziere). A very well-preserved Heer Officer’s M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with two pebbled and grey-painted zink buttons which emanate from the right flap and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. A band of silver aluminum wire piping trims the outer edge of the crown, securely held in place with hidden machine stitching. Affixed to the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, just above a tri-colour cockade. The insignia measures 58 mm (w) x 44 mm (h) overall. Completing the exterior features is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, lined in identical wool and presenting free of bending and cracking commonly seen in other examples. A partial brown leather sweatband is secured in place across the forehead with a row of machine stitching, while the interior is also fully encompassed by a multi-piece beige rayon liner. It is unmarked, with the exception of a black ink size stamp of “58” on the crown. The cap measures approximately 210 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). With only minor material fatigue evident, it is in an extremely fine condition.
