(Silver). Antique. In silver, illustrating a full-length dragon in relief stretching around the entire circumference of the cup, engraved with an inscription in Chinese with the city name, Tientsin (a metropolis in northern coastal mainland China, now known as Tientjin), dated "1901" and marked with the Emperor's name, "Guang Xu" (Qing Dynasty, 1875-1908) and "in the 29th year of his reign" above the front half of the body of the dragon, engraved with an inscription in German"Dem Kollegen Johannes Hoppe zum Geburtstage 9. September 1903. Das Beamtem .... Tientsin" (To our colleague Johannes Hoppe for his birthday September 9, 1903. Civil Servant .... Tientsin) above the back half of the dragon, hallmarked with the city, Tientsin and the manufacturer's name on the bottom. Measuring 68.5mm (mouth diameter) x 49mm (base diameter) x 111mm (height) and weighing 131.1 grams. Deep patina, but in extremely fine condition.
