Item #G48858

$590
(Luftwaffe Bergmütze). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe EM/NCO’s Bergmütze- (Mountain Cap) style field cap, constructed of dark grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, offering optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with a single pebbled zink button which emanates from the right panel and meets a reinforced buttonhole on the left. The crown is flanked by ventilation holes, each reinforced with grey-painted magnetic metal grommets. Stitched onto the peak with factory original zig-zag machine stitching is an insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 75 mm (w) x 40 mm (h) overall. Directly underneath the eagle, it also features an additional insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade, measuring 38 mm (w) x 38 mm (h) and similarly attached with undisturbed factory stitching. Completing the exterior is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, lined in identical wool. The interior features a partial brown leather sweatband set across the forehead, and is fully encompassed by a grey-blue rayon liner. Stamped onto the crown in black ink is a Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBN) of “2/0125/0” for an unidentified Breslau-based manufacturer, as well as a size mark of “58”. The cap measures approximately 210 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Soiling consistent with light wear is evident to the interior liner and sweatband, but the cap is in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
