Instituted 16 September 1572. A presentation case for a Grand Cross Set of the Order of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus, constructed of a wood frame with a faux green leather exterior, the obverse lid with a silver embossed monogram of Victor Emmanuel III topped by a royal crown, within a raised border, the interior with a padded white satin-type lid liner, inscribed with a maker’s mark of “Viot & Buronzo, Gioielleria, Torino, Via Garibaldi 4” along with the company’s logo, with an intact hinge cover and ribbons, white satin-type medal bed, featuring a removable purple doeskin depressed and slotted medal bed, opening with a bronze snap button and dual hinges, measuring 128 mm (w) x 288 mm (h) x 38 mm (h), the snap button is no longer functional and minor material fatigue is evident, single hinge missing pin, otherwise in near very fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
