A well-preserved Romanian Army Officer’s dagger, measuring 315 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 168 mm-long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge. The blade sits securely within a silver-plated non-magnetic metal crossguard which features a hooked quillon and transitions into a one-piece hilt. The seam where the blade meets the crossguard is covered by an intact blackened leather buffer pad. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite comprise the handle grip, and are secured together with dual non-magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a Romanian Army insignia, constructed of a gilded zink alloy and measuring 14 mm (w) x 24 mm (h). It completes with a pommel consisting of a highly-detailed, double-sided eagle head. Emanating from the eagle neck is a loop on a swivel fixture. The dagger is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a polished magnetic steel shaft. Emanating from the side of the shaft is a downward-pointing hook securing in place an original leather frog, itself constructed of dark brown leather and stitched into a belt loop. Four magnetic metal rivets maintain the structure of the frog. Unmarked, the dagger demonstrates some issues consistent with age and use, including oxidation to the blade, loss of finish to the handle insignia, and some fatigue to the leather. It is in an overall very fine condition.
