Germany, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Grand Duchy. A Cross for War Distinction, I Class, c.1915

(Kreuz für Auszeichnung im Kriege). Instituted in 1871. In silver, "FÜR TAPFERKEIT" on the centrepiece and "1914" on the arm at 6 o'clock, unconfirmed maker's mark on the reverse (possibly Gustav Brehmer or Paul Maybauer), measuring 41.3 mm (w) x 41.3 mm (h), circular support plate, screwback with wingnut, very light contact, near extremely fine.
