(Reichsbahn Schirmmütze). A Reichsbahn Official’s visor cap, constructed of dark blue wool twill. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a black rayon cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with red wool piping, while an additional band of dark blue wool piping trims the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a gilded zink government-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 34 mm (h). Directly underneath the eagle, the centre of the cap band is pinned with a mis-matched insignia consisting of a silvered zink Bahnschutz cockade with a red wool centrepiece, measuring 70 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). The cap band is flanked on each side by pebbled and gilded magnetic metal buttons securing in place a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled gold bullion wire piping, interspersed with dark blue threading. It rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. The interior features a brown leather sweatband measuring 40 mm in width, and is fully encompassed by a multi-piece brown oilcloth and cotton-blended liner. A magnetic metal reinforcement is secured to the peak and formerly maintained the structural integrity of the front. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 250 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 155 mm (h). In addition to the mis-matched cockade, the cap demonstrates numerous issues consistent with age and use, including material fatigue to the exterior wool, distortion of the interior crown reinforcement, mothing of the piping, soiling and deterioration of the interior liner and sweatband, and the detachment of one end of the peak reinforcement exposing the jagged metal. This experienced cap is in an overall poor condition.
