(Roter Adler Orden I. Klasse in Gold). Instituted 12 June 1792 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II. (1854-1918 issue). Constructed of Gold with enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with white enameled arms, the obverse featuring a central white enameled medallion within a Gold ring, bearing a finely-detailed and hand-painted Prussian imperial eagle, the reverse featuring an analogous medallion bearing a gilt monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm II, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an integral loop connecting to a suspension ring which retains a period original full-length neck ribbon with a bronze clasp for secure wear, the central ring bearing a maker’s mark between the six and nine o’clock arm of “H&S” for the firm of Humbert & Sohn, Berlin, measuring 59.88 mm (w) x 64.86 mm (h), weighing 32.8 grams, with a small crack visible to the top of the enamel of the obverse twelve o’clock arm, in addition to chips visible to the enamel of the reverse twelve and six o’clock arms, in near extremely fine condition.
