Czechoslovakia, I Republic. A First World War Independence Plaque 1914

Constructed of a bronze alloy with wood, consisting of a relief bearing a central rising sun overlaid by a raised number “14”, flanked by a soldier of the Czechoslovak Legion, and topped by an inscription of “SVOBOĎE NA STRÁŽ” (“FREEDOM TO GUARD”), set within a multi-piece dark wooden frame, the lower obverse of the relief bearing an illegible designer’s mark, measuring 260 mm (w) x 80 mm (w) x 225 mm (h), with some scratching and oxidation evident to the wood and metal, respectively, in overall better than very fine condition.
