A textbook example of a fine early quality “Pilotenabzeichen” by this maker; two-piece construction, consisting of a silvered tombac wreath and a patinated tombac eagle; the wreath is constructed of laurel leaves towards the left side and oak leaves towards the right side, separated by three small ribbon-like loops on the bottom, with a large patinated eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge, clutching a swastika in its talons; two rivets on the reverse; vertical needle style pinback (previously re-soldered onto the barrel hinge) and with a round wire catch; maker marked “C.E. Berlin S.W.” on the reverse; measuring 53.16 mm x 64.20 mm; weighing 30.3 grams; with attractive patina on the wreath and eagle from age; in overall better than very fine condition.
