An extremely well-preserved, early-issue Stahlhelm standard bearer’s gorget, constructed of a semi-circular bronze base finished with a matte silver coating, the obverse bearing an ornate one-piece silvered bronze insignia consisting of a central raised Stahlhelm set within an oval oak leaf wreath, flanked on each side by detailed standard flags, topped by a crowned German national eagle clutching a sword and quiver of arrows, with each side topped by dual integral rings connecting to a silvered bronze multi-link neck chain, the reverse with three visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, unmarked, measuring 170 mm (w) x 180 mm (h) (inclusive of integral loops), with only minor loss of finish evident, a desirable early Stahlehlm gorget in extremely fine condition.
