(Orden de Bernardo O'Higgins). Instituted in 1956. Two-piece construction, in silvered bronze with white enamels, measuring 45 mm (w) x 47.5 mm (h), original ribbon, on a traditional Chilean-style horizontal hanger with pinback, chipping evident in the white enamels on the star point at 12 o'clock, light contact, better than very fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, brown cloth and padded exterior, inside lid in white satin, padded and maker marked "HOURS SANTIAGO - CHILE", navy blue felt medal bed, measuring 87 mm (w) x 138 mm (h) x 29.5 mm (d), case near extremely fine.

It is awarded to foreign civilians for achievements in the field of arts, sciences, education, industry, trade, humanitarian and social cooperation, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
