Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k rifle with the bayonet attached and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, marker marked with the logo of Rudolf Souval, Vienna, measuring 46.94 mm (w) x 61.72 mm (h), weighing 31.9 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an owner’s label reading “MANZENREITER RUDOLF, 18992”, with a stamped mark of “INFANTERIE STURM-ABZEICHEN SILBER”, and a maker’s mark of “RUDOLF SOUVAL, WIEN”, measuring 57 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), the badge demonstrating near-total loss of silver finish and period repairs to the hinge, in overall very fine condition.
