Item #G50736

$200
(Reichsluftschutzbund Bajonett). A well-preserved Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB)/National Air Raid Protection League dress bayonet, measuring 355 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 205 mm-long polished magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and low edge. A narrow fuller runs approximately two-thirds the length of both the obverse and reverse of the blade. The obverse ricasso is maker marked with the logo of E. & F. Hörster, Solingen. It sits securely within a one-piece plated magnetic metal hilt featuring a hooked quillon. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, fastened together with non-magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered and enameled RLB insignia measuring 25 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). It completes with a hollow insertion slot featuring a functional push button release, with a curved pommel facilitating a comfortable grip. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of black-painted magnetic metal. Emanating from the side of the shaft is a downward-pointing hook for the accommodation of a frog. The throat retains a functional spring catch, securely holding the bayonet in place during storage, held together by a single side rivet. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade, oxidation of the hilt, chipping of the handle’s insignia enamel, and some oxidation of the scabbard. The bayonet is in an overall very fine condition.
