Austria, Empire. An Order of the Golden Fleece, Decoration for Field Uniform, Collector's Copy

(Orden vom Goldenen Vlies). Instituted in 1431. Produced in the Rothe style, of very good quality and recent manufacture, the badge in silver gilt and measuring 23.5 mm (w) x 31.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, the suspension with a three-piece construction, in silver gilt with red and navy blue enamels and measuring 43.5 mm (w) x 19 mm (h), intact enamels, original ribbon, extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order of the Golden Fleece was instituted on January 10, 1431 and was discontinued as astate award in 1918, but remains a dynastic order of the House of Habsburg. It was awarded to Catholic monarchs and nobles in one grade: Knight.
