Item #G49385

$498
(Heer Schirmmütze für Offiziere der Infanterie). A Heer Infantry Officer’s crusher-style visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap features reinforced side walls lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. White wool piping trims both the top and bottom edges of the cap band, with an additional band of identical piping fully lining the outer edge of the crown. Stitched onto the crown is an insignia consisting of a dark green wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 70 mm (w) x 30 mm (h) overall. The cap features an additional insignia in the centre of the cap band directly underneath the eagle, consisting of a padded dark green wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire tri-colour cockade set within an oak leaf of identical construction. It measures 65 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). The cap band is flanked on each side by pebbled magnetic metal buttons securing in place a decorative chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire, adjusted with dual functional sliding knots. The chinstrap rests upon a protruding black vulcanfibre visor, finished in a glossed black on the obverse and in a matte brown on the reverse. The interior of the side walls is fully lined with a dark brown leather sweatband, while the structure is also fully encompassed by a beige rayon liner. Fully unmarked, the cap measures 215 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 140 mm (h) as presented. The interior crown reinforcement has been removed and the overall structure compressed to create the appearance of a crusher cap. Additionally, there is consistent mothing and material fatigue throughout the wool, with bending of the visor and deterioration of the liner. The cap is in an overall fair condition.
