(Orden der Eiseren Krone). Instituted in 1805, discontinued in 1814, restored in 1816. Hardshelled, maroon cloth-textured on the lid and sides, the bottom with a pebbled black paper covering, inscribed in gold-coloured ink "OSTERR. KAISERLICHER ORDEN DER EISERNEN KRONE III CLASSE / K. D" (K.D = Kriegsdekoration) (Austria, Imperial Order of the Iron Crown, III Class, War Decoration) on the lid, inside lid in white satin and inscribed in gold-coloured ink "V. MAYER & SÖHNE / K.K. HOF. u. KAMMER-JUWELIERE ORDENFABRIKANTEN WIEN", black felt recessed medal bed, push release, measuring 62 mm (w) x 128.3 mm (h) x 22.7 mm (d), the lid exhibiting slight age discolouration, with wear spots on the bottom, case better than very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Iron Crown was instituted on June 5, 1805 by Napoleon I as King of Italy. It was discontinued in 1814 and restored on February 12, 1816 by Emperor Franz Joseph. It was issued in three grades: I Class Grand Cross, II Class Commander and II Class Knight.
