FENIAN RAID 1866 (Pte. A. CroN, Brantford Highland R. Co.). Naming is officially impressed, the last letter of his surname having been erased and replaced with an engraved "N", but his name is "Crow" on the roll. Original ribbon, semi-dark patina, spotting, edge nicks, bruised, light contact, very fine.

Footnote: Private Archibald Crow is shown on the roll of the 35 man Brantford Highland Rifle Company and is listed on page 153 of the "Canada General Service Medal Roll, 1866-70" by John Thyen, entitled to the Canada General Service Medal with Fenian Raid 1866 clasp. As noted on the handwritten roll of the 38th Battalion, Brantford Highland Rifle Company, Crow was on garrison duty from March 8 to June 16, 1866 at Brantford. On June 2nd, the company took charge of 59 Fenian prisoners and guarded them in the Brantford jail. The prisoners were then escorted to the old jail in Toronto and were delivered to Sheriff Jarvis on June 9th.
