(Deutsches Kreuz in Gold). Instituted 28 September 1941. (1941-1945 issue). Constructed of gilded and silvered tombak with enamels, the obverse consisting of a double-overlaid eight-pointed ribbed starburst pattern, with a central silvered disc overlaid by a raised and black enameled mobile swastika, within a gilt laurel wreath wrapped in ribbon and joined together at the bottom by an institution date of “1941”, with both the inner and outer edges of the wreath ringed by red enamel, the reverse with five visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, with a barrel hinge and tapering flattened pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of a heavy second type by the firm of C.E. Juncker, Berlin, measuring 63.58 mm (w) x 63.24 mm (h), weighing 59.4 grams, with some loss of finish evident, in addition to scratching of the swastika’s enamels and a large chip to the three o’clock arm, an uncommon variant in better than very fine condition.
