A fine quality manufacture Prussian Order of the Red Eagle Second Class with Swords (Preußische Rote Adlerorden II. Klasse mit Schwertern); cross pattée with four white enameled arms, with crossed swords between the arms, on a silver star; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting an enameled crowned eagle, surrounded by a white enameled ring, inscribed “Sincere Et Constanter” (Latin - Sincere and persistent); the reverse with a vertical pin and a functional hinge/catch assembly; maker marked “J.G. & S” for “J. Godet & Sons, Berlin” manufacture,with eight bolt-and-nut assemblies, but missing two nuts; measuring 81.88 mm x 82.09 mm; weighing 78.0 grams; the enamels on the obverse extremely well preserved, with only light contact marks; in overall better than extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
